When I lived in Brooklyn
with my husband and son, we always dreamed of owning our own home. In 2004 that dream came true. We went from Brooklyn, NY to Warwick, NY.
Our house was beautiful. The school system
and neighborhood was great for our son, who was entering into middle
school. When my husbanded decided that he
didn't want to be upstate and in the marriage he packed up and left me with a teenage son, a mortgage and credit card
bills, I didn't know where to turn.
My light instantly turned to dark. With
the economy in the beginning of a downfall, I reached out to my mortgage company,
who turned their back on me and would not help me.
I
went through every agency that I could and I received no help. I called
different companies, reached out to my
Congress men/women and even the Attorney General, which all led me no
where. Things were really looking bleak. I called a Realtor to ask her to put
my house on the market. At this point the
market was bad and the house was not selling and the Realtor kept going down on
the price and I finally decided to take it off the market and downsize to an
apartment. Now, I was scared because I knew
the bank would start foreclosing on the house and I was not thinking of
myself, I was thinking of my child. I was so scared of becoming homeless. My credit was now bad, and I knew that
trying to find an apartment was not going to be good because people look
at you like a Fico Score not a person.
I went to look at several apartments and I told the truth
of my situation and landlords starting telling me no. They did not want to take the risk.
I
was in a black hole and I could not come out of it. Finally, looking in the
newspaper, I saw an apartment for rent and I
called the number, left a message. Needless to say, that landlord called
me back, met with me and took the chance. This was the beginning of my luck changing for the better. I also got
into a debt program to pay off my credit cards.One day I received a letter in the mail and I noticed it was from a
company called Surefit Properties, I
didn't rush to open the letter because I received so many like that in the past
couple of months. So finally after a couple of days, I opened it up and I
glanced down and noticed the signature was hand written, not typed or
stamped, seeing the signature made me feel different, someone took the time to

signed and made sure that I understood what I was signing.
At first the
process was slow, same as before and at times I thought this is not going to work and I would pray about,
stayed up thinking about it, cried about it. Well I also learned that the process of
doing a short sale takes a little longer than normal processes of selling a house
and I would have to be patient and stand on my faith.
All the while,
Chris and Joyce made much needed repairs in the house and never ever asked me for nothing towards
anything. Well, one day I got the good
news call, they found a buyer. What a happy day. Joyce and Chris were always negotiating with the bank on my behalf. The
house finally sold to a wonderful couple. My son and I personally thank Chris and Joyce for all the hard work
that you both put into helping us and now we can start with our new beginnings.
